Underwater wildlife photography can be very challenging. A simple-looking photograph such as this one required my whole one hour dive to capture. The best underwater images are produced when the subject is a couple inches from the camera lens — telephotos lens can’t be used underwater. One of the many challenges of this photograph included balancing the strobe lights so as to not overexpose the highly reflective fish while still lighting the coral reef behind them. All the while being as still and quiet as possible so as to not scare the fish out of formation.
