Goliath groupers are ambush predators that rush a short distance and engulf their prey with a vacuum-like action of their jaws. The goliath grouper in this photograph hovered perfectly still while being surrounded by bait fish. As soon as the jacks balled up the bait fish in a tighter formation the goliath grouper charged through the school inches from my camera. The motion of the fish in this photograph was captured in-camera while shooting at very slow shutter speeds.
